What mattress firmness should I choose?

The firmness of a mattress is a key factor in ensuring restful sleep. It depends on the density and type of support system of the mattress, and must be adapted to your body shape.

A good mattress should keep your spine aligned, without you sinking in too much, or the support being too rigid.

At Bed Republic, we offer several levels of firmness ranging from balanced to very firm, knowing that we prioritize.

However, firmness (because it is favored by more than 87% of customers).

Two indicators are important: the welcome and the support, so that everyone can find the comfort that suits them.

Whether you prefer a soft feel and firmer support (which is the most appreciated and which our mattresses are designed to suit), it is essential to choose a mattress that respects the natural alignment of your body and, above all, supports it.

How to choose a mattress based on your weight?

Weight is an important factor in choosing your mattress, as it influences the level of support needed for quality sleep.

A mattress adapted to your body shape will allow you to maintain good spinal alignment while offering optimal comfort.

At Bed Republic, we recommend firmer support for larger individuals to ensure proper support, while lighter builds may prefer softer support to avoid a feeling of rigidity.

Ideally, all body types, regardless of weight, should opt for a firm mattress.

Our mattresses and mattress toppers support weights up to 150kg/person.

What weight can your mattresses support?

Our mattresses and mattress toppers support weights up to 120kg/person for a double mattress (in accordance with the fact that two people can sleep on it) and up to 150kg for a single mattress.

Why choose a memory foam mattress?

Furthermore, they limit movement, making them perfect for couples who want good sleeping independence. Their main drawback is that they tend to retain a little more heat, although at BED REPUBLIC, our memory foams are specially designed with AEROCELULAR ventilation technology, which prevents the initial coldness followed by warmth during sleep that some memory foam mattresses can have.

What is the difference between a memory foam mattress and a spring mattress?

What is the difference between a firm mattress and a soft mattress?

First of all, it is not advisable to choose a mattress that is too soft.

At BED REPUBLIC, we do not offer soft mattresses, which do not effectively support the spine.

However, the choice between a firm and a soft mattress depends on personal preferences for comfort and support, as well as specific sleep needs.

After all, tastes and preferences are subjective.

Firm mattress:

Optimal support: Firm mattresses offer more pronounced support, making them ideal for people who need good spinal alignment, especially back or stomach sleepers.

Pressure point reduction: By being more rigid, these mattresses prevent the body from sinking in too much, which can be beneficial for those who suffer from back or joint pain.

How can I extend the life of my mattress?

To maximize the durability and comfort of your mattress, here are some practical tips:

- Use a mattress protector: A mattress protector can protect your mattress from stains, moisture, and dust mites. This helps keep your mattress clean and fresh.

- Rotate and flip your mattress: If your mattress is designed to be flipped, do so every three to six months to prevent uneven sagging and ensure even wear. Even for non-reversible mattresses, rotating them head to foot can help.

- Air out the mattress: Let your mattress breathe by removing the sheets and leaving it exposed to the air for a few hours each week. This helps eliminate moisture and prevent dust buildup.

- Avoid jumping on the mattress: Even if it's funny, treat your mattress with care to avoid damaging its structure. Avoid jumping or making sudden movements on it; cuddling and lovemaking are perfectly acceptable, but with a certain amount of restraint, and without any ulterior motives, of course.

How to choose the right size mattress?

Choosing the right size (of your mattress, right?) is crucial to ensuring quality sleep.

A mattress that is too small can compromise your comfort, while a suitable mattress allows you to move freely without disturbing your partner.

It is therefore important to take into account your body shape, your sleeping habits, and the available space in your bedroom.

For optimal comfort, we recommend choosing a mattress that is at least 15 to 20 cm longer than your height.

If you are sleeping as a couple, it is best to choose a width of at least 160 cm to ensure enough space for each of you.

Remember, the more space you have, the better you sleep!

At Bed Republic, we offer a wide range of sizes, from single to king size mattresses and up to 200cm wide by 200cm long (200x200cm), as well as custom dimensions (in the form of special orders), to meet all needs.

Does a mattress affect the temperature of your room?

Although we often think about adjusting the heating thermostat or using a fan or air conditioning to regulate the temperature of the room, your mattress, as well as your bedding (bed base, sheets, pillows, duvets...) also play an important role.

Regarding the mattress, some mattresses can retain body heat, which can make your sleep less comfortable (this is not the case with BED REPUBLIC thanks to our technology), especially if you tend to get hot at night.

A mattress's ability to regulate heat depends on the materials it is made of.

For example :

Memory foam mattresses, while offering exceptional comfort, tend to retain heat due to their high density.

Spring and hybrid mattresses, thanks to their airy structure, allow better air circulation, making them cooler.

Latex mattresses, and especially those made of natural latex, offer a good balance between comfort and breathability, promoting a cooler sleep.

What is the recommended height for a mattress base?

The recommended height for a mattress base is generally between 25 and 30 cm (including legs).

This ensures good support while making it easier to get in and out of bed. The mattress will also influence the height, as a bed base that is too thin with a mattress that is too thick and heavy will also be unsuitable.

However, this can vary depending on personal preferences and mattress height.

Some like a low style, with a thin bed base and a very thin mattress, and conversely, you can find high beds, with more than 55-60cm high (mattress included) which will give you a hotel and palace look.

At BED REPUBLC, our bed base and mattress sets have a perfect balance in terms of height (between 45-60cm all inclusive), with a very short range of bed bases:

Only 2 bed base heights: 13 and 20cm (excluding legs).

- 13cm + 15 feet

- 20cm + 15cm feet.

Various foot height options are also available.

What types of bed bases can I use with a Bed Republic mattress?

Our BED REPUBLIC mattresses are compatible with most non-articulated and non-mechanical/electric bed bases on the market.

The choice of bed base can influence your comfort and the durability of your mattress.

BED REPUBLIC also offers bed bases, but it is not mandatory to purchase one to use a BED REPUBLIC mattress.

Here are some tips to help you make the right choice:

- Slatted bed bases: Suitable for all types of mattresses, they promote good ventilation and are particularly recommended for improving mattress breathability. If you suffer from back pain, a slatted bed base can offer better support.

- Spring bed bases: Ideal for spring mattresses, they are not suitable for foam or latex mattresses, as they may impair their performance.

- Electric bed bases: Our mattresses are not compatible with electric bed bases (unless otherwise specified...).

Don't forget that the bed base plays an important role in overall comfort; it is the "foundation" of your sleep, and represents about 30% of the overall firmness.

For added firmness, opt for a bed base with rigid slats.

If you prefer a softer sleeping surface, flexible slats are the best choice.

Once again, tastes and preferences are subjective.

What are the dimensions of a mattress?

At BED REPUBLIC, we offer a wide range of mattress sizes, namely:

Do mattresses have odors?

Yes, as with all new products, it is possible that your mattress may give off a slight odor when you first unpack it.

This smell is usually due to the vacuum packaging, which preserves the freshness of your mattress.

It's the smell of new things.

Don't worry, it is non-harmful as it is not linked to chemicals or glues (we use water-based glues).

To get rid of this smell, we recommend airing the room where the mattress is located for a few hours.

Ideally, you should simply air out the mattress, if you can.

This will promote air circulation and help to quickly dissipate any residual odor.

In the event that you have a latex mattress, a slight latex odor may also be noticeable, but it will dissipate in a short time.

Over time, it is normal for odors to appear due to perspiration and other factors.

To avoid this, we recommend regular maintenance of your mattress, including the use of a mattress protector.

Moreover, at Bed Republic, we are committed to using high-quality materials, free from harmful chemicals, to ensure a healthy and restorative sleep.

Is there a summer side and a winter side?

We have two sides: One side with a softer filling, and one side much firmer.

They can be called "summer side" and "winter side", because it is a practice still common among some traditional manufacturers and an indelible marketing element since the 1970s in our consciousness as customers.

They can also be described as having a soft/balanced side (winter) and a very firm side (summer).

And indeed, our body, depending on the season, does not have the same expectations in terms of sleep regeneration: for cocooning in winter, we will opt for a softer side; for sporting activity and heat, we will opt for a much firmer side in summer.

However, just because the seasons change, it doesn't mean we absolutely have to change the side of our mattress.

It's a matter of taste, and our mattresses are designed to be used on only one side... for their entire lifespan.

Therefore, using a summer or winter side is not mandatory; it's a concept that we can almost call marketing, but one that is deeply rooted in our culture!

Our mattresses are designed with innovative materials that allow optimal temperature regulation throughout the year, so use whichever side you prefer, if you wish, even all year round (provided you air it well).

Important point: changing the side of your mattress is also good for "airing out" it, but this should in no way be mandatory.

How can you tell the summer/winter sides apart?

In some of our mattresses, this is clearly indicated on the label: either in writing or in the form of symbols.

It is also possible that this is not indicated.

But, by definition, the summer side is the firmest.

Therefore, by default, the winter side - or all-season side - will be more flexible.

One final case is that of mattresses with brand labels on the front: when the label is right-side up, it's the winter side. Therefore, a label upside down indicates the summer side.

How do I unpack my mattress?

Unpacking your BED REPUBLIC mattress is quick and easy!

But it is FORBIDDEN to use any cutting tools or utensils. Your hands, and a little elbow grease, are all you need. Using a sharp object can cause irreversible damage to your mattress.

Here are the steps to follow:

- Preparation: Place the mattress in the room where you wish to install it. Note that our mattresses can be heavy and bulky, so it is strongly recommended to have a second person help you, especially for installation.

- Unpacking: Take the mattress out of its box and slide it out. It's a rolled-up tube...

- Removing the packaging: Use your hands to remove the adhesive tape securing the recyclable plastic that compresses the mattress. Remove the plastic completely.

Although we would like to eliminate this plastic, it is necessary to protect the mattress during transport.

- Unrolling: Unroll the mattress on a flat surface, highly recommended on the bed where it is to be positioned, and position it correctly on your bed base/bed/bed frame.

Avoid not installing it directly in its preferred location.

Warning: once the plastic has an air intake, the mattress will decompress, and this very rapid phase can be quite surprising: the mattress will take on a considerable volume in a few seconds.

It's best not to be in an elevator when this happens, if you know what I mean! because the mattress will regain all its volume (do not try this or open it in an elevator!).

-Rest time: Allow the mattress to regain its shape.

It may take a few hours, or even a few days, but you will usually be able to sleep on it that same night.

To aid this process, feel free to gently lift each corner and shake it softly, or even lie directly on it. The fact that the mattress is being used will also restore all its qualities in the coming weeks.

We have chosen to deliver our mattresses rolled and compressed to facilitate their transport and minimize bulk.

Don't forget to recycle the packaging plastic after unpacking.

At Bed Republic, we continually work to find more sustainable alternatives for our packaging, with materials that are % recyclable.

I don't like my new product, is that normal?

Yes and no.

The feeling of novelty, especially in an environment like sleep, can be unsettling. Let's not jump to conclusions and want to return your product after the first night: if, for example, our mattresses are firmer than your old one, that's normal and "better" for your health, and unfortunately, this can only be verified over time.

The feeling of novelty can only be beneficial.

I've opened and set up my mattress, but I want to turn it over, how do I do that?

Returns are at BED REPUBLIC's expense under the 60-night trial guarantee.

Returns are at your expense - outside/after the 60-night guarantee, but also for all products not eligible for the 60-night trial guarantee.

Beyond this period, we do not accept returns for hygiene reasons.

If purchased through a reseller, the seller's terms and conditions apply, and we do not provide any reseller with the return conditions found on our BED REPUBLIC website.

By default, for all returns not guaranteed by the 60-night trial guarantee, the legal withdrawal period applies (14 days), for which the return costs are your responsibility.

I received my product, but I'm unsure about the size, should I open it?

ABSOLUTELY NOT!

Returning an opened mattress is much more expensive!

Bed linen, or bath linen, is considered "used" and therefore not recoverable if it has been opened and used.

If you have any doubt, do not open, if necessary contact us (optional if needed), and prefer to return it to our facilities in its original, UNOPENED packaging.

Delivery

How long can I expect to wait for delivery?

Express 48-hour delivery and quality often don't go hand in hand. If you want quality, freshness, and a good price, you have to be a little patient.

This is how the luxury industry works: you place an order, then you receive it once it's made.

Between 1 and 5 weeks, depending on your order, your country and delivery area.

We are currently experiencing an average delay of approximately 2-3 weeks.

All of this is shown in your shopping cart before you confirm your order.

Is it normal that my delivery is taking so long?

YES, it all depends on what you call long...

Between 1 and 5 weeks, it depends on your order: this is indicated when you place your order.

You will receive:

An order confirmation email

A shipping confirmation email with a tracking number for your order (order tracking) – long after your first order confirmation email.

An email containing your invoice.

So, between those two emails—the order confirmation and the order shipment—panic! No more news! They've forgotten me! Well, no, rest assured, we don't forget anyone…

Important note: nothing seems to happen between the time of order and delivery, this is normal because WE ARE WORKING to make and ship your product. If it helps reassure you, send us an email, we will reply… but please know that we do not forget any order.

P.S.: Regarding the comments about "it's taking too long" or "it's normal that it takes this long" - YES, BED REPUBLIC, if you haven't figured it out, it's a bit like choosing between a real restaurant with a promising and passionate chef... or fast food. Well, BED REPUBLIC isn't fast food, or fast fashion HOME that delivers in 15 minutes flat.

I have a problem with the delivery, or after my delivery, what should I do?

We already know, you don't like problems, it's the same for us, we hate them.

But as your ancestors used to say, that's life. And problems – unfortunately – can arise, even though at BED REPUBLIC, we do everything we can to prevent them!

To say that there are never any, therefore, would be lying to you (even if we would like to): since 2022 we have had a problem rate of around 0.62% of orders placed... so not much.

It is this 0.62% that our logistics, purchasing, after-sales service, management team... in short, everyone, tries to reduce on a daily basis.

And then you just have to look at our customer reviews:

So you and we must do our best to avoid getting them.

What should I do if I only received part of my order / only a partial copy of my order?

First of all, don't panic, this can be perfectly normal.

Indeed, depending on the size and your products, but also on its shipping location, each element of your order may be delivered by different carriers.

Transporting a 50kg bed base is not the same as delivering a very light feather pillow.

It's not the same people, not the same teams, not the same carrier, not the same vehicles (and also not the same muscles).

An example of the most frequent case is: I received my bed base but not my mattress.

This is NORMAL! Each of these products will be delivered by different companies and delivery systems.

Another example: I only received a duvet and pillow, where is my bed base?

So, to explain it better with a picture:

Try to imagine your postman on his bicycle, who will indeed deliver a pillow in his very light package...

So, your long-awaited bed base, it's certain he's not going to fit it on his luggage rack...

It will be a different company, with a large truck and two people who will come to deliver it to you.

Can you visualize it better now?

I ordered from a third-party website, a reseller, a distributor; should I contact you?

NO.

And it's important to respect it properly.

First you must contact your reseller, we cannot "contractually" communicate directly with you.

We don't even have your information, we don't actually know you – NOT –... so it's difficult to help you…

And this applies to all kinds of problems: delivery, quality, after-sales service...

If this is the case for you, contact your reseller who will be your sole point of contact.

Our team will surely do what is necessary (with the reseller, not with you) to resolve your problem.

My delivery of a rolled and compressed mattress: what you ABSOLUTELY need to know, and what you MUST read after having a mattress delivered.

Especially BEFORE opening a rolled, compressed mattress, make sure that everything is OK.

Because once the rolled, compressed mattress is opened (and decompressed), it is much more difficult to manage this product, logistically speaking.

So (and this is IMPERATIVE again):

A mattress isn't like the latest size M or L sweater I try on to see how it fits. Beyond hygiene, handling an open and decompressed mattress is extremely complex from a logistical standpoint.

  • Size (which is important here): Check carefully before ordering, but also at the time of delivery, that your bed is the exact size of the mattress ordered.
  • Size (which is important here again): Carefully check on the label that the size indicated is indeed the one ordered.
  • Remove all other mattresses from the bed or bed base.
  • When ordering a bedding set, carefully check that the bed base is the same size as the mattress, and vice versa.

We repeat this because it is mandatory upon delivery: once opened, the mattress will be much more complex and costly to manage logistically speaking.

This can lead to very high transport management costs.

No delivery to upper floors or installation, except upon specific request and validation with our sales department.

If you have any doubt, do not open, if necessary contact us (optional if needed), and prefer to return it to our facilities in its original, UNOPENED packaging.

I would like delivery to the room of my choice, is that possible?

YES,

We try to limit our impact as much as possible.

Even if it's not that simple, it's mainly our philosophy and our way of approaching the furniture/bedding/linen sector that allows us to limit our impact on the environment.

All these small actions, taken together, make us try to limit our footprint as much as possible:

  1. Produce less by only producing your order: this is a way to limit overproduction and unsold goods.
  2. Manufacturing to last: consume less but better, no more disposable products!

The feeling of novelty, especially in an environment like sleep, can be unsettling. Let's not jump to conclusions and want to return your product after the first night: if, for example, our mattresses are firmer than your old one, that's normal and "better" for your health, and unfortunately, this can only be verified over time.

Where will my product go if it is returned?

Depending on its condition, your product is transferred to a specialist in processing this type of product, who will then:

BED REPUBLIC offers its resellers manufacturer warranties ranging from 2 to 5 years maximum (depending on the agreements made with each of the resellers).

This therefore depends on your reseller's commercial and warranty policy; we invite you to discuss these points with your reseller.

How do you handle returns?

We will arrange for its return at our expense for products eligible for the 60-night trial guarantee, if you are not satisfied within 60 days.

In the event of a logistical problem, return shipping costs are covered by us only if the issue or problem is reported immediately upon delivery in writing by the customer to both the carrier and our customer service department. It is essential to report the problem to the carrier; otherwise, the claim will be invalid.

If the ordered product does not benefit from the 60-night trial guarantee, the return costs are the responsibility of the customer within the legal withdrawal period of 14 days (within 14 days).

Steps:

1. Confirm your order by sending the order number + invoice.

- Label with batch number

- Photos and videos of the product in its current condition.

- Reason for return (not mandatory but helpful).

It goes without saying that a returned product must meet a minimum standard of cleanliness and show no signs of damage.

All of this information will be analyzed in order to validate the acceptance of the return.

Please note that without this analysis, which must be validated beforehand by our customer service department prior to delivery of your product, the product return cannot be processed.

I have a return to make, what address should I send it to?

Before returning any item, please inform customer service in advance for efficient follow-up of your request.

Any return, without contact or information from customer service, cannot be processed and will be considered void!

The package(s) must be identified upon return using a label, to be clearly visible on the package (provided by our customer service).

Keep your shipping receipt safe, and above all, request a delivery notification, which proves that the package will be delivered to our returns department. Any photos and proof of shipment are helpful, especially in case of a carrier dispute.

Return shipping costs and ensuring delivery to our warehouse are your responsibility.

I've opened and set up my mattress, but I want to turn it over, how do I do that?

Returns are at BED REPUBLIC's expense under the 60-night trial guarantee.

Returns are at your expense - outside/after the 60-night guarantee, but also for all products not eligible for the 60-night trial guarantee.

Beyond this period, we do not accept returns for hygiene reasons.

If purchased through a reseller, the seller's terms and conditions apply, and we do not provide any reseller with the return conditions found on our BED REPUBLIC website.

By default, for all returns not guaranteed by the 60-night trial guarantee, the legal withdrawal period applies (14 days), for which the return costs are your responsibility.

Do I need to take out transport insurance in case of return?

When returning an item at your own expense, it is STRONGLY recommended, to avoid any carrier disputes, that you insure your shipment for at least the value of your order. This will give you the assurance that a package that might be lost can be valued at its true worth.

Good to know: there is default insurance, governed by the transport code: in case of loss, the default transport insurance reimburses approximately €6-10 per kilogram (data as an example may vary depending on the type of shipment, goods and carrier...).

Refund

Refund following cancellation before shipment

In the event of cancellation before shipment of the Order, outside of any right of withdrawal, the refund of the sums received will be made within a maximum period of 30 days after receipt of the CLIENT email and a maximum of 30 days if the cancellation is the responsibility of BED REPUBLIC.

The treatment is normally much faster, but we give this timeframe as a maximum.

Refund following a customer return after shipment

In the event of cancellation after dispatch of the Order, the procedure will be different as it will apply the rules of the right of withdrawal defined in the RETURNS TERMS AND CONDITIONS.

The repayment period in this situation will be different, and determined according to the situation and its resolution.

We will issue the refund using the same payment method you used for the initial transaction, unless you expressly agree to a different method, subject to acceptance by BED REPUBLIC; in any event, this refund will not incur any fees for you. We may withhold reimbursement until we have received the goods or until you have provided proof of shipment of the goods, whichever is earlier.

If a refund is not possible, BED REPUBLIC will issue a refund via bank transfer. BED REPUBLIC will require the CLIENT to provide a valid bank account statement (RIB) and supporting documentation to verify the validity of the bank account provided. No payments will be accepted by check or cash.

Refund following a return after an "x nights trial" period.

After the customer makes contact for a return, the carrier will collect the item within a maximum of 30 days, depending on the customer's availability.

A transport time of 7-10 days is then required for the return of the product to our warehouse.

Subject to compliance with these return conditions, BED REPUBLIC will process the refund for returned items within a maximum of 30 days.

The "one-for-one" takeover

One product purchased = one product taken back from you, at our expense!

It is giving a piece of furniture/product to our services, in exchange for a product with identical technical characteristics and dimensions/weight, with the aim of revaluing the product (recycling or reuse).

We can indeed take back your bulky product (beyond the standard packaging dimensions of 300cm developed by the express courier) for the purchase of a product with "equivalent" volume and weight characteristics to the product purchased.

Any product falling below these characteristics must be disposed of by the customer, at a waste disposal facility or collection point provided.

This collection does not take place at the same time as the initial delivery of your product, but later, by appointment, through a specialized company.

The 1 for 1 trade-in is subject to conditions and rules that must be respected.

How do I request a takeover?

Upon validation of your order (paid in full), contact our customer service at help@bedrepublic.fr. Several pieces of information will be required beforehand to confirm that your return is possible.

Which items are affected?

- Similar item to your purchase: you buy a double mattress, we'll take back a double mattress...

- Item with characteristics of dimensions exceeding 30kg and with a development of at least 200cm.

Below, we invite you to deposit your products in specialized collection bins or at a waste disposal center.

Is it mandatory to give away my old furniture or bedding when making a purchase?

Absolutely not!

And if you don't want to keep it, we recommend:

Sell ​​your item! There's always someone who will be interested...

- Giving it away: and it's a gesture for surely someone who will need it.

- Donating it to an association: And that's an even better gesture! Associations such as EMAUS will come and collect furniture directly from your home, provided it is in a reusable condition.

No, unfortunately.

How is my return to work going?

Beforehand, when you confirm your order, you must:

1. Once your order has been accepted, inform our customer service that you would like a 1 for 1 return.

2. Provide by email to our customer service help@bedrepublic.fr the characteristics (nature, weight, dimensions...) of the product to be returned + your order reference.

Please note that without this analysis, which must be validated beforehand by our customer service department prior to delivery of your product, the return cannot be processed.

Will the return of my old product be on the same day as my delivery?

NO.

A specialist company will handle this step, a minimum of 15 days after receipt of your order.

We use the service provider SMART BACK, which has the logistics and skills to collect and recycle your old furniture or bedding.

Do I need to prepare my old piece of furniture for removal?

Yes, otherwise we will not be able to resume operations.

- Empty all additional objects or items.

- Carefully pack the product, protect it, to facilitate transport.

- Prepare the furniture or bedding at your doorstep, in front of your house, for removal.

A product that does not meet these conditions will be refused, and your trade-in benefit will be cancelled.

Is it normal that my delivery is taking so long?

YES, it all depends on what you call long...

Between 1 and 5 weeks, it depends on your order: this is indicated when you place your order.

You will receive:

An order confirmation email

A shipping confirmation email with a tracking number for your order (order tracking) – long after your first order confirmation email.

An email containing your invoice.

So, between those two emails—the order confirmation and the order shipment—panic! No more news! They've forgotten me! Well, no, rest assured, we don't forget anyone…
